The city of Valencia has 14 public holidays in 2027: 12 for the whole Comunitat Valenciana, set by the Generalitat's decree, plus 2 local days set by the Ajuntament, Sant Vicent Màrtir on Friday 22 January and Sant Vicent Ferrer on Monday 5 April.
Three of them fall on a Saturday (1 May, 9 d'Octubre and Christmas Day), so a Monday to Friday worker gets 11 weekdays off. The no-leave long weekends are 1 January, 22 January, 19 March (Fallas), Easter (26 to 29 March, four days), 5 April and 1 November, plus the 4 to 6 December weekend.
Every date below is confirmed in an official source. San Juan (24 June) is not a holiday in the Comunitat Valenciana in 2027.

Not holidays in 2027: Holy Thursday (25 March) is a normal working day in the Comunitat Valenciana, unlike in Madrid or Andalucía. San Juan (24 June) is not on the 2027 regional list. The Assumption (15 August) falls on a Sunday and the Generalitat did not move it, so it is not a day off either. Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve are ordinary working days, although many offices close early.
Long weekends and puentes in Valencia in 2027
2027 is a good year for long weekends in Valencia. Eight holidays land on a Monday or a Friday, and Easter and the two Sant Vicents stack up in spring. Here is every holiday that falls on a working day, and what it does to your week.
Every holiday on a working day, and what it gives you
- Friday 1 to Sunday 3 January: a 3-day weekend (New Year's Day), no leave needed.
- Wednesday 6 January (Epiphany) is a midweek holiday: a single day off, with no long weekend unless you add two days of leave.
- Friday 22 to Sunday 24 January: a 3-day weekend (Sant Vicent Màrtir), no leave needed.
- Friday 19 to Sunday 21 March: a 3-day weekend (Sant Josep), no leave needed.
- Friday 26 to Monday 29 March: a 4-day weekend (Good Friday and Easter Monday), no leave needed.
- Saturday 3 to Monday 5 April: a 3-day weekend (Sant Vicent Ferrer), no leave needed.
- Tuesday 12 October (National Day) is a puente day: take Monday 11 October off and you get 4 days, Saturday 9 to Tuesday 12 October, for one day of leave.
- Saturday 30 October to Monday 1 November: a 3-day weekend (All Saints' Day), no leave needed.
- Saturday 4 to Monday 6 December: a 3-day weekend (Constitution Day), no leave needed.
- Wednesday 8 December (Immaculate Conception) is a midweek holiday: a single day off, with no long weekend unless you add two days of leave.
The best-value stretches of leave
These are calculated for someone who works Monday to Friday and gets every holiday on this page off. Check your own contract and collective agreement before you book anything.
- Friday 1 to Sunday 10 January: 10 days off for 4 days of leave (4, 5, 7, 8 January). New Year and Three Kings joined up: the Epiphany Wednesday splits the week, so four days of leave buys ten days.
- Friday 19 to Monday 29 March: 11 days off for 4 days of leave (22, 23, 24, 25 March). Fallas straight into Easter. You get the Cremà night on the 19th and the whole of Holy Week without going back to work in between.
- Friday 26 March to Monday 5 April: 11 days off for 4 days of leave (30 March, 31 March, 1 April, 2 April). Easter to Sant Vicent Ferrer. The city of Valencia gets the Monday after Easter Monday off too, so the week between is the cheapest long break of the year.
- Saturday 4 to Sunday 12 December: 9 days off for 3 days of leave (7, 9, 10 December). The December puente: Constitution Day on Monday and the Immaculate Conception on Wednesday.
Holidays that fall on a weekend in 2027
Three holidays fall on a Saturday in 2027. The Generalitat's decree does not move any of them, so if you work Monday to Friday you do not get a replacement day:
- Labour Day falls on Saturday 1 May.
- 9 d'Octubre falls on Saturday 9 October.
- Christmas Day falls on Saturday 25 December.
The Assumption (15 August) is a Sunday and is not on the 2027 list at all. If you work Saturdays, as many people in retail and hospitality do, the three Saturday holidays are still days off for you.
Valencia city's local holidays in 2027
The Ajuntament de València approved its two local holidays for 2027 at the full council meeting in July 2026, and announced them on valencia.es on 23 July 2026:
- Friday 22 January: Sant Vicent Màrtir, the patron saint of the city. A three-day weekend.
- Monday 5 April: Sant Vicent Ferrer, celebrated on the Monday after Easter Monday, with the milagros (children's miracle plays) performed on altars around the old town. Another three-day weekend, a week after Easter.
An opposition proposal to make 18 March, the eve of Sant Josep and the night of the Nit del Foc fireworks, a holiday instead was voted down, so 18 March is a normal working day. The Generalitat later publishes every municipality's local holidays together in the DOGV; the dates above are the ones the city decided.
Working outside the city? Towns around Valencia (Paterna, Burjassot, Torrent, Alboraya and the rest) each choose their own two local days, so a colleague in the next town may be off on a different day. Check your workplace's town hall.
What about school holidays?
Schools close on every public holiday on this page, but term dates, the Easter and Christmas breaks and any extra non-teaching days are set separately by the Conselleria d'Educació, and individual schools can add a few days of their own. Do not plan childcare from the public holiday list alone: use your school's own calendar for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 term dates.

What is open and closed on a public holiday in Valencia?
A public holiday in Valencia runs much like a Sunday. Exact opening hours vary by business, so treat this as a guide and check the places that matter to you the day before.
- Government offices are closed. The town hall, the foreigners' office (Extranjería), the police stations that take NIE and TIE appointments, the social security and tax offices: none of them offer appointments on a holiday. If you are hunting for a cita previa, holiday weeks have fewer slots.
- Banks and post offices (Correos) are closed. Cash machines work as normal.
- Shops: most large shops, department stores and many supermarkets close. Bakeries, small convenience shops (alimentaciones) and some supermarkets in the centre open, often for shorter hours. In residential neighbourhoods, assume your usual supermarket is shut and shop the day before.
- Bars and restaurants mostly open, and holidays are busy eating-out days for local families. Book a table for lunch, especially on long weekends.
- Public transport runs, usually on a Sunday or holiday timetable with fewer services. Metrovalencia, EMT buses and Valenbisi all keep running.
- Health care: your health centre (centro de salud) is closed for routine appointments, but hospital emergency departments are open 24 hours, and every area has a duty pharmacy (farmacia de guardia). The rota is posted on the door of any pharmacy.
- Museums and sights often open on holidays, but many close on 1 January and 25 December. Check the official website before you go.
How public holidays work for residents
How many holidays does a worker in Spain get?
Spanish labour law caps paid public holidays at 14 a year: up to 12 national and regional days, fixed each year in a decree by the regional government, plus 2 local days chosen by each town hall. All 14 are paid and you do not have to make the hours up. That is on top of your annual leave, which is at least 30 calendar days by law.
Local holidays follow where you work, not where you live
The two local days belong to the municipality where your workplace is. If you live in Valencia but your office is in Paterna, you get Paterna's local holidays, not Valencia's. Schools and public offices follow the local holidays of the town they are in. This trips up a lot of newcomers who commute across a municipal boundary.
Sunday and Saturday holidays
Spain does not automatically move a holiday that lands on a weekend. Each regional government decides, in its yearly decree, whether to move a Sunday holiday to the Monday. A Saturday holiday is normally not moved, so Monday to Friday workers simply do not gain a day. If you do work Saturdays, as many people in shops and hospitality do, the Saturday holiday is a day off for you.
If you have to work on a holiday
Hospitals, transport, hotels, restaurants and many shops work through every holiday. If you are one of those workers, your collective agreement (convenio colectivo) sets the compensation, usually extra pay or a day off in lieu. Check your own agreement or ask your employer; it varies by sector.
Freelancers (autónomos)
If you are self-employed, nobody gives you the day off, but your clients, your gestoría, the tax office and the social security office will all be closed. Deadlines that land on a holiday generally move to the next working day for official procedures, but do not count on that for private contracts.
Planning tips for residents
Book the Easter to Sant Vicent week early
Four days of leave between Easter Monday and Sant Vicent Ferrer gives you eleven days off. Plenty of Valencians spot this, so trains to Madrid and flights out of Manises for that week go first.
Fallas is not a holiday until the 19th
Fallas runs from mid-March with the plantà on the 15th, but only Sant Josep on the 19th is a holiday. The days before are normal working days, with street closures, crowds and very little sleep. Plan commutes around the closures, not around a day off.
Get your paperwork done the week before
Any cita previa with Extranjería, the padrón or the tax office is harder to get in holiday weeks. If you need an appointment around Easter or early December, book it as soon as slots open.
Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve are working days
Neither is a public holiday. Many offices and shops close early, but your employer is not obliged to give you the day. In 2027 both fall on a Friday, so taking them as leave turns each into a long weekend.
